Medical Tests for Australian Visa

Medical Tests Required for Australian Visa

The healthcare system of Australia is the second best in the developed world, according to a study conducted by Commonwealth Fund researchers based in New York. With an aim to maintain high standards in healthcare, Australia has made it mandatory for visa applicants to meet certain health requirements. So, all those who want to migrate to Australia must undergo certain medical examinations.

Who needs health checks?

Health checks are required for all those who apply for a permanent Australian visa and those who apply for temporary visas. If the family is accompanying the primary applicant, all the members must meet the health requirements. There is also a chance that if a family member fails the health check, the visa is refused to everyone. In some cases, even if the applicant’s family members are not accompanying him/her, he/she may be asked to undergo medical tests.

Diseases for which tests are undertaken:

  • Tuberculosis
  • Hepatitis
  • HIV/AIDS

Any other tests may be requested at any time by a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth.

What is the purpose of health checks?

  • To prevent migrants from bringing diseases/infections/viruses into Australia
  • To determine if the applicant has above-average healthcare needs and become a burden on the public healthcare system in Australia.
  • To determine if the applicant’s medical condition may harm the health of the Australian public.
  • To determine if the applicant’s medical condition will cause Prejudice of Access (transplantation, dialysis, blood products, radiotherapy, high-level nursing home care, etc).

What is the ideal time for medical tests?

To avoid delays, it is ideal to undergo the medical tests before lodging the visa applications using My Health Declarations.

The validity of the results of medical tests for an Australian visa is 12 months.

Ways to Improve your CRS Score

CRS Score

If you want to immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system, your chances of being selected are almost entirely based on how well you score in the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). You are awarded points under CRS based on a number of factors including education, proficiency in English and/or French language, age and work experience. Other factors that can significantly increase your score include Canadian degrees, diplomas, certificates, a valid job offer, and a nomination from a Canadian province or territory. The candidates ranked the highest, based on their scores, are sent Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence in Canada.

Here are some ways to improve your CRS score:

1. Improve language scores

One of the easiest ways to raise your CRS score is to focus on the language scores. Prepare for language tests such as IELTS, if you are able to score a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 9  in the language test, you can get up to 136 direct points under the language section and up to 100 points under the sub-factors of the Skill Transferability section. You can also earn up to 24 points by appearing for a language test in French if your first language is English and vice versa.

2. Apply through a Provincial Nominee Program

If you are nominated by one of the Canadian provinces or territories under Canada’s PNP, you will receive up to 600 CRS points. This will increase your chances of getting an ITA. You can apply for a Provincial Nominee Program before or after you create your Express Entry profile

3. Secure a LMIA-approved job offer

Another way to increase your CRS score and get up to 600 points is to secure a job offer, recognized by the Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), from an employer in Canada. This will make a candidate from the Express Entry pool more eligible to receive an ITA.

4. Make your spouse the primary applicant

If you are applying for Canada immigration with your spouse or common-law partner and he/she can score more CRS points, it is advised to make them the primary applicant. However, if you have already started your application, it is not possible to change the primary applicant in an existing Express Entry profile. So, you will have to create a new profile with your partner as the primary applicant and yourself as a dependent.

5. Keep working

If you have less than three years of full-time work experience, it is ideal to continue working. You will receive points under the Skill Transferability section, the more the work experience, the better.

Canada: Reasons for Inadmissibility

Reasons for Inadmissibility

Before moving ahead with your plans to immigrate to Canada, it is important to find out if you meet the admissibility requirements of the country. A person wanting to enter Canada may be found inadmissible by Canadian law for any of the following reasons:

Criminal Inadmissibility

  • Criminal inadmissibility is for an individual who has been convicted of or has committed a crime.
  • Some of the crimes that lead to inadmissibility include theft, assault, manslaughter, reckless driving, driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol and the possession of or trafficking of drugs and/or controlled substances.
  • The act must be considered a crime in both the place it was committed and in Canada to lead to inadmissibility.
  • In the case where the crime was committed outside of Canada, a conviction is not necessary if there is substantial evidence to prove the crime.

However,  it is ultimately in the hands of the immigration officer to decide if a person must be allowed to enter Canada or not.

Other Reasons for Inadmissibility

Some of the other reasons for a foreign national to be found inadmissible include:

  • He/she is a security risk.
  • He/she has committed human or international rights violations.
  • He/she has a serious health problem.
  • He/she has a serious financial problem.
  • He/she deliberately provided incorrect information in the submitted application and/or interview.
  • He/she does not meet Canada’s immigration law requirements.
  • If one of their family members is not allowed in Canada.

Deemed Rehabilitation

Deemed rehabilitation is a way for an aspiring Canadian immigrant to overcome criminal inadmissibility.
