The international education sector is giving a major boost to Manitoba economy. The contribution of international education to Manitoba’s economy witnessed a 30 percent increase between 2015 and 2016, according to a report by the Manitoba Council for International Education. In 2016, the sector contributed $374 million to the economy of Manitoba.

In the same year, international education contributed $306,300,000 to Manitoba’s GDP. The amount has witnessed a six-fold increase compared to the year 2010.

The report suggests that by increasing the number of international students from 2.7% of the total in Canada to Manitoba’s proportionate share of 3.3%, the contribution to the economy from the sector can be increased to $458m, and tax revenues to $84m.
