The Basic Law “Grundgesetz” regulates the German Education system and its functions. To say about Germany Education System, its higher education institutions are internationally accredited and Germany holds the privilege of having some very famous old universities of the time as well as some of the most modern and most innovative universities of this century.

Germany is a global leader of industry and technology. The Germany Education System is also celebrated as the international pioneer of education and innovation. Same is the case with the Germany Education System where The Federal Ministries of Education and Cultural Affair & Science department sets the policy guidelines, adopting administrative regulations for the Germany Education System.

Tertiary education providers or the Higher education studies institutions in Germany are the recognized Universities which offer specialized education that leads to the budding of a professional career in the life of a student.

The Public And Private Universities Of The Germany Education System

Germany accounts for having 400 public universities and 120 private institutions altogether which helps domestic as well as International students to get specialized education in their field of interest. The Public Universities of the Germany Education System is completely funded by the state and therefore they impose no special charges like tuition fees from overseas students for pursuing a degree course. Whereas, the Private Universities of the Germany Education System are not state regulated and they do not receive any government funding. So the private universities of the Germany Education System have the legal right to collect fees from their students.

The Bologna System

As established under the Bologna System, the Germany Education System has now a three-tier degree system of the European Higher Education Area. Earlier it has one-tier programs but now Germany offers Undergraduate Courses which gives students their Bachelor’s degree in a specific subject, and Postgraduate Courses awards students their Master’s or Ph.D. (Doctorate) on their selected subject domain. The Bologna System is designed to be the same throughout in other European Countries. The idea behind the uniformity of exercising the Bologna System is to facilitate the mobility of international educational and enhancing the flexibility in pursuing higher educational goals for international as well as domestic students.

Postgraduate Education

The Postgraduate Education of the Germany Education System awards Master’s degrees for students. However, Ph.D.’s which are research-oriented compared to the Master’s degree programs which are taught courses. The duration of Master’s degree programs in the Germany Education System for 2 years and comprises of four semesters. The 2 years Master’s degree programs in the Germany Education System can be either ‘consecutive’ or ‘non-consecutive’. If an international student takes up Consecutive Master’s program it means that the student had already obtained his / her Bachelor’s degree in any of the subjects and now he/she can follow on from the related undergraduate degree course.

The universities don’t charge for the Consecutive Master’s program the Germany Education System. Whereas the Non-consecutive programs of the Germany Education System focus on the detailed specialization of the elected subject or area of the study. In the Non-consecutive programs of the Germany Education System, universities may charge fees. The desired requirement of the Non-consecutive programs of the Germany Education System is the professional or practical experience in addition to the undergraduate degree earned.
