The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) updates its Expression of Interest system for coinciding with the new National Occupational Classification System of Canada. In the changed system, those who have study or work experience in Northern Ontario will get the highest points. According to OINP representatives, the changes aim to enhance regionalization. The new scoring factors are also expected to improve operational efficiency and reduce program integrity risks.
In an important statement issued recently, OINP informed that those who have submitted their EOI profiles before November 16, the day when NOC 2021 was introduced, will have to submit new profiles.
Ontario Expression of Interest system
The OINP EOI system is for submitting applications under the following immigration streams:
- Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker
- Employer Job Offer: International Student
- Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills
- Masters Graduate
- PhD Graduate
So, those who wish to apply under any of these streams must first submit an Expression of Interest profile. Each of these profiles are then assessed and scored on the basis of various human capital factors such as education, language ability, skills, work experience etc. Those who are selected by Ontario will be issued invitations to submit applications under one of the above streams. The EOI profiles can be updated anytime. The validity of these profiles is 12 months or until the candidate receives an ITA.
OINP conducts regular EOI draws. These draws can be either general, where the highest-scoring candidates are invited or targeted, where candidates who meet specific labour market or human capital requirements are targeted. Those who receive an invitation from OINP in an EOI can submit the complete application within 14 days.
Canada Provincial Nominee Program
As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2023-25, the highest number of economic immigrants would come to Canada through Provincial Nominee Program. In each year of the plan period, more than 100000 immigrants will move permanently to Canada. As per the Plan, the target for 2023 is 105500. For 2024, the target is 110000 and for 2025, the target is 117500. So, those who wish to migrate to Canada through Provincial Nominee Program have better chance of realising their dream of obtaining Canada PR.
