The Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program is approved by the federal government through the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada to issue a maximum of 1050 certificates of nomination for the Calendar year 2015.
The Newfoundland and Labrador Skilled Worker category is for foreign workers and skilled immigrants who are valuable to the labor market. Potential applicants are required to have accepted an offer of employment from an employee in Newfoundland or be presently working in the province on a valid work permit. Employers must also state the need for labor’s skill set.
If you’re applying under the Newfoundland and Labrador Skilled Worker stream, you must meet the following eligibility criteria:
- You must be between 21 to 59 years old to apply under the Newfoundland and Labrador Skilled Worker Program.
- You must be offered a job as a full-time, long-term employee from an eligible Newfoundland and Labrador employer.
- You should have a citizenship and immigration Canada work permit or be enabled to apply for one.
- You must possess the skills, qualifications, and training required for the job.
- You should state the interest and potential to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Illustrate your financial sufficiency to establish yourself and your dependents in Newfoundland and Labrador.
- Your employer should illustrate the need for your expertise.
- You must possess good language proficiency for the job offered. Occupations that come under NOC C and D positions require a minimum of CLB 4 on a valid language test.
You are not eligible to apply if:
- You are a post-graduate work permit holder, you cannot apply under the Skilled Worker stream, but
- you can apply under the International Graduate category.
- You or any of your family members have a history of criminal records.
- You have purposefully misconstrued yourself in your application.
- You have unsettled custody or child support disputes.
- You are a failed refugee claimant or a refugee claimant.
- You quit or lose your job during the application process.
- You have a serious medical condition.
How to Apply?
Here’s a step-by-step process for applying for the Newfoundland and Labrador Skilled Worker category.
- The Newfoundland and Labrador Skilled Worker stream accepts applications at any time.
- You must submit a complete application to the stream if you come under the eligibility criteria.
- Successful applicants will receive a provincial nomination from Newfoundland and Labrador.
- After you receive your provincial nomination, you will have 6 months to submit a federal application for permanent residence in Canada.
- If you have applied under this program, you must complete and submit a paper-based application for permanent residence.
- PNP applications for permanent residence are processed within 18 months.
