Temporary Skill Shortage Visa

Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa was introduced by Australia in April 2017 to replace the Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457 visa). The new visa aims to help businesses in Australia address skill shortages. It also involves some conditions that aim to prioritise Australian workers. Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (subclass 457 visa) will be replaced by the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa by March 2018.
Temporary Skill Shortage visa comprises two streams:

A Short-Term Stream of up to two years
A Medium-Term Stream of up to four years

Requirements and Conditions for Applicants

Minimum two years of work experience
A minimum IELTS score of 5 in each test component
Meet standard health requirements
Provide security clearance certificate
The applicants must be below the age of 45 at the time of application

Requirements for Employers>

The visa holders must be paid at the Australian market salary rate and meet the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT); which means
Remuneration at or above $53,900 plus superannuation
There should be no discrimination between the visa-holder and an Australian employee in the same position.
Labour Market Testing: A non-discriminatory workforce test if the employers are discriminating against workers.
Contribute to the Skilling Australians Fund
AUD $1,200 for businesses with turnover < AUD $10m
AUD $1,800 for businesses with turnover >AUD $10m
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection will collect tax file numbers and the date will be matched with the Australian Tax Office’s records
