The Canadian province of British Columbia nominated 2,350 candidates for permanent residence through its four Express Entry-linked immigration categories in 2017. The year also witnessed a remarkable rise in the number of nominations made through the EEBC — Skilled Worker category.
According to a report on the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program(BC PNP), nominations made through its Express Entry-aligned immigration categories constituted 39.1 per cent of all nominations issued by British Columbia in 2017. British Columbia’s allocation for the year 2017 was 6000 nominations.
British Columbia Express Entry
BC PNP has four British Columbia Express Entry streams or categories aligned to the federal Express Entry. They are: EEBC — International Graduate; EEBC — Skilled Worker; EEBC —International Post-Graduate; and EEBC — Healthcare Professional. In order to be eligible to apply to the EEBC — International Graduate, EEBC — Skilled Worker and the EEBC — Healthcare Professional categories, a candidate must have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer. Those interested in applying for provincial nomination from British Columbia must first submit an Expression of Interest to the Skills Immigration Registration System of BC PNP.
Applications from EE candidates decrease
Though there has been a rise in the number of nominations for Express Entry candidates in 2017, the year also witnessed a drop in the number of applications for nomination to BC PNP from Express Entry candidates. The number of applications dropped from 45.1 per cent in 2016 to 39.1 per cent in 2017. But the total number of applications received by BC PNP increased from 5,363 in 2016 to 7,307 in 2017.
India, China top the list
Indian and Chinese applicants received the highest number of nominations from British Columbia PNP through its Skills Immigration Stream in 2017, as it was in 2016 as well. While 32 per cent of the total nominations were issued to Indians, 21 per cent of the total nominations were issued to the Chinese. The other major source countries were South Korea, Australia, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Ireland, the United States, Philippines and Iran.
