Canada Express Entry, the economic immigration selection system introduced in January 2015, has completed 100 draws. The 100th draw held on September 24 invited 400 Federal Skilled Trades Class (FSTC) candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The total number of invitations issued through Express Entry over the 100 draws comes to around 213,000.
What is Canada Express Entry system?
Canada Express Entry is a system for managing applications to the three major economic immigration categories–Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Most of the Provincial Nominee Programs also have streams aligned to Express Entry. Candidates who enter the Express Entry pool are assigned a score based on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). The highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada through the Express Entry draws held almost in every two weeks. The candidates who receive the invitation can submit the complete application within 60 days. Almost 80% invitations are processed within six months.
As per the Multi-Year Immigration Levels Plan introduced in 2017, Canada targets to admit 74,900 immigrants through Express Entry in 2018. The target for 2019 is 81,400 and for 2020, the target is 85,800.
PNPs aligned to Canada Express Entry
Nine provinces and two territories of Canada have Provincial Nominee Programs aligned to Express Entry. Provincial Nominee Programs allow provinces and territories to nominate candidates for permanent residence in Canada. Each of these Provincial Nominee Programs have at least one stream aligned to Express Entry. An Express Entry candidate who receives provincial nomination obtains 600 additional CRS scores which improve their prospects of being invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in one of the Express Entry draws. In 2017, Canada admitted 13,528 provincial nominees through Express Entry.
