In the Expression of Interest draw held on October 18, Prince Edward Island (PEI) issued 270 invitations to apply for provincial nomination to Express Entry and Labor Impact category candidates. By far, this is the largest PEI Expression of Interest draw held in 2018. However, it is not clear how many invitations were sent to candidates belonging to each category. Prince Edward Island’s Provincial Nominee Program, the PEI PNP, has also issued 27 invitations to entrepreneurs through its Work Permit Stream, minimum score being 135.
PEI Expression of Interest system
Those who wish to be considered for provincial nomination under the Express Entry and Labor Impact categories of PEI PNP, must first create an Expression of Interest (EOI) profile online and submit it to the Office of Immigration, Prince Edward Island.
PEI immigration authorities award scores out of 100 to each profile based on a number of factors including age, language proficiency, education qualification, work experience, etc. The profiles are then ranked based on the scores obtained. The highest ranking candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination.
PEI PNP Express Entry category
Candidates in the federal Express Entry pool, who do not have a job offer, can apply for provincial nomination through the PEI Expression of Interest system. However, this category gives priority to candidates living and working in Prince Edward Island. PEI authorities often directly contact candidates in the federal Express Entry pool, who have skills in demand in the province.
The Express Entry candidates who are nominated by Prince Edward Island will receive 600 additional CRS points.
PEI Labor Impact Category
This category is meant to meet the needs of the PEI labour market, especially the innovative and primary industries of the province. This category comprises three streams–Skilled Worker Stream, Critical Worker Stream and International Graduate Stream. One precondition for applying through this category is that candidates must be working in PEI at the time of submitting the Expression of Interest or must have a job offer from a PEI employer.
