Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) has reached its nomination allocation cap for the year 2018. This year, OINP has issued a total of 6,600 invitations to apply for provincial nomination through its various immigration streams. However, the province will continue to accept new applications and consider applications that have been already submitted under the 2019 nomination allocation for the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program, except for its Master’s Graduate Stream.
Nomination allocations for Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Ontario being the most populous province of Canada, the immigration allocation for the province in the year 2018 was 6600 nominations. It means Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program has been the largest provincial nominee program in Canada. The allocation for 2018 was 600 slots higher than the allocation for the previous year, when the number was 6000. Though the allocation for the year 2019 is yet to be announced, it is expected that the number will be higher.
Immigration streams under Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program
Of the total 6600 nominations allocated this year, 6411 nominations were issued through the three Express Entry-aligned streams of Ontario. Human Capital Priorities Stream, French Speaking Skilled Worker Stream and Skilled Trades Stream are the Express Entry-aligned streams of OINP. Among these, the Human Capital Priorities (HCP) Stream issued the most number of nominations.
A total of 3,534 applicants were invited to apply for provincial nomination through HCP in 2018. Out of the eight HCP invitation rounds took place this year, three were targeted draws, including two targeting Express Entry candidates with a job offer. The remaining one targeted candidates with French-language proficiency equivalent to a CLB 7 or above and an English language level of CLB 6 or above. Minimum CRS scores required was also lowered for the three targeted draws, to 350 from 400. Now HCP does not have a minimum CRS score and the minimum score is now determined by the director of the OINP.
The number of invitations issued through the other two Express Entry-aligned streams– French-Speaking Skilled Worker and Skilled Trade streams of OINP together was 2,880.
