In the 14 draws held through its Express Entry-aligned immigration stream so far this year, the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) has issued a total of 3357 invitations, it has been revealed. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System score of the invited candidates was as low as 300. All those who were invited through the Alberta Express Entry stream received 600 additional CRS score points guaranteeing them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
Alberta is where Edmonton and Calgary, two of the most popular destinations for immigrants are located. Oil and gas production are the backbone of the province’s economy. However, diversification to the fields of information technology, health services and other industries are also taking place.
Alberta Express Entry stream
The Express Entry-aligned stream of Alberta was introduced in the year 2018. In order to apply for provincial nomination under the stream, the candidates must be eligible for one of the three federal immigration programs managed by the Express Entry system — the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. They must also have an active profile in the Express Entry pool.
The Alberta Express Entry stream allows the province to search for candidates who meet the requirements of the province in the federal Express Entry pool and invite them to settle in the province.
The eligibility criteria include a minimum CRS score of 300 and experience in an occupation that “supports Alberta’s economic development and diversification priorities.” A previous connection to the province is an added advantage, which can be a job offer and/or work experience in Alberta, a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and/or a parent, child or sibling already living in Alberta.

The largest Alberta Express Entry stream draw was held on March 5, in which a total of 473 invitations, or Notifications of Interest (NOIs), were issued.
