Alberta Express Entry stream

Alberta Express Entry stream allows the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) to select candidates who meet the province’s eligibility requirements from the federal Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for provincial nomination. Ever since its launch, 27 draws have been held under the Alberta Express Entry stream so far in which at total of 5,382 NOIs have been issued.
In order to be eligible under the Alberta Express Entry stream, the candidate must have an active Express Entry profile. No job offer or previous work experience in Alberta is required to qualify, but the candidate must have work experience in an occupation that supports the province’s economic development and diversification priorities. The applicant must also have a minimum CRS score of 300. Priority is given to candidates with:

  • a job offer and/or previous work experience in Alberta;
  • a degree from a Canadian post-secondary institution and a valid job offer; or
  • A close relative living in Alberta.

However, an Express Entry candidate is less likely to receive an NoI through Alberta Express Entry stream if their Express Entry profile is about to expire within three months from the draw or the occupation of the candidate is listed on the Ineligible Occupations list of  Alberta Opportunity Stream.
Alberta Express Entry stream often invites candidates with CRS scores much lower than the minimum cut-off score set for federal Express Entry draws. The highest cut-off CRS score set for any Alberta Express Entry stream so far is 425, in the draw held on July 10, 2019. This is significantly low compared to the cut-off score in the most recent federal Express Entry draw, which was 466.
Albeta has invited candidates with CRS scores as low as 300 on four occasions in 2019. In three other Alberta Express Entry stream draws, the minimum score was 301 and in one other, the cut-off score was 302.
The candidates who successfully apply for and receive provincial nomination from Alberta will obtain 600 additional CRS score points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
