In the latest Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) draw held on September 29, the province invited 1340 Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The candidates were required to have a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 266. The candidates were selected from among those who had submitted their Express Entry profiles within 12 months before the draw date. In the previous Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream draw held on September 7, the province invited 1521 candidates with a minimum CRS score of 320.
Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream
The Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream targets Skilled Trades Workers in the construction and agricultural sectors. However, the Stream would soon be expanded to include Skilled Trades Workers from other sectors as well.
In order to qualify under Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream, a candidate must have an active Express Entry profile. Further, they must have at least 12 months of work experience in Ontario, acquired within the last two years prior to receiving their Notification of Interest from Ontario. The work experience must be in an occupation classified under National Occupation Classification 633, 72, 73, 82. They must also have acquired the required license or certification to practice their occupation in Ontario, if necessary.
They must hold a valid work permit at the time of submitting their application. The minimum level of language proficiency required is equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 or above in English or French, in all the four capabilities–reading, writing, listening and speaking. They must also produce proof of settlement funds. Further, they must demonstrate their intention to reside in Ontario, upon obtaining permanent residence status.
Ontario has so far conducted eight draws under the Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream in 2022. Four among these draws have invited more than a thousand candidates and the latest draw has the lowest CRS requirement so far.
Candidates cannot apply directly under this Stream. Instead, they must receive a Notification of Interest (NOI) from the OINP. NOI is issued to those candidates selected from the OINP from the Express Entry candidates pool. Those who receive the NOI may submit their complete application online within 45 calendar days through the application management system of Ontario. If their application is accepted, they will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points that would make them eligible to receive an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
