SINP holds its first occupation-specific Expression of Interest draw

Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP) held its first Expression of Interest draw for immigration candidates with work experience in specific in-demand occupations on April 17. Three of the four occupations targeted in the draw were newly added to In-demand Occupations List of Saskatchewan when it was updated on April 4.
For a candidate to be considered for provincial nomination from Saskatchewan under the Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand sub-categories of SINP, they must have work experience in one of the occupations listed in the In-demand List of the province. However, the candidate need not have a job offer to apply under both these streams.

Occupations targeted

In the Expression of Interest draw held on April 17, Saskatchewan issued a total of 324 invitations to apply for provincial nomination to candidates of Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand sub-categories. These candidates were required to have work experience in one of the following occupations:

Three of these–Technical Occupations in Geomatics and Meteorology; Tailors, Dressmakers, Furriers and Milliners; and Appliance Servicers and Repairers were added when the In-Demand Occupations list was updated on April 4.

Expression of Interest draw: Minimum score

The Expression of Interest system of Saskatchewan awards a score out of 100 to each candidate based on a number of eligibility factors such as education, skilled work experience, and language proficiency, besides connections to the province. The highest scoring candidates are invited in the Expression of Interest draws that are conducted regularly. However, the April 17 draw was an exception as it invited candidates with experience in specific occupations. The minimum score required for candidates of both the Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand sub-categories in the April 17 draw was 60. This was the lowest score yet drawn for Occupation In-Demand candidates since the EOI system was introduced in July 2018.

In-Demand Occupations List revised

The SINP has announced later that it had revised its In-Demand Occupations List again to remove the four occupations targeted in the April 17 draw, which means these occupations were there in the In-demand List only for a brief duration of 13 days. However, the candidates who have received an invitation to apply prior to the removal of their occupation from the list can still apply for a provincial nomination. Currently, the In-demand Occupations List of Saskatchewan has 20 occupations.
