The latest immigration trends indicate that around 225,000 Indians are likely to move to Canada in the next three years. Out of the total 276,380 new permanent residents who moved to Canada in the first 10 months of the year 2018, total 60,915 were Indian citizens. It means around 22 percent of the total number of new immigrants.
If the same percentage is applied to the immigration levels plan of 2019-2021, around 73000 Indians will be admitted to Canada in 2019, close to 75,000 in 2020 and more than 77,000 in 2021.
But this would happen only if the same percentage of Indians are admitted to Canada in these years. Notably, the percentage of Indians being admitted to Canada increased from 13 percent in 2016 to 22 percent in the first 10 months of 2018.
Right time for Indian aspirants to move to Canada
Indians are the highest in number among the new permanent residents of Canada. The second highest number of newcomers to Canada is from the Philippines. But their number is only half compared to the Indians who obtained permanent residence in Canada during the first 10 months of 2018. The other top source countries are China, Syria and Nigeria.
Why Indians prefer to move to Canada?
India has a huge number of technology skilled workers capable of meeting the increased demand for technical skills in Canadian labour market. This factor has made Indian technology skilled workers hugely popular among Canadian recruiters and the Canadian immigration policies have also paved a favourable ground for Indians to settle in Canada.
The Indians who come to Canada as international students or temporary workers mostly obtain permanent residence later. Moreover, Canada already has an Indian population settled in the country over several decades. This also makes Canada an attractive place to settle for Indians.
