A total of 32 Skills Immigration and Express Entry candidates received invitations to apply for provincial nomination in the British Columbia Tech Pilot draw held on February 5. The candidates invited belonged to the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories in both the Express Entry BC (EEBC) and Skills Immigration streams under the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program(BC PNP). The Skilled Worker candidates were required to have a minimum score of 85 while International Graduates required to score 95 to be selected.
In order to be selected for provincial nomination under the British Columbia Tech Pilot program, EEBC candidates must be registered under both the federal Express Entry system and B.C.’s Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). However, Skills Immigration Candidates need to be registered only with the SIRS. The Express Entry candidates who successfully apply for provincial nomination under the Tech Pilot program will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score points that would ensure them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
British Columbia Tech Pilot program
British Columbia introduced the Tech Pilot program in 2017 with an aim to meet the rising labour demands in the technology sector of the province. Through the program, British Columbia wants to make sure that its tech sector has access to the talent it needs to continue growing.
Tech Pilot candidates do not require an indeterminate, full-time job offer unlike most of the immigration categories under BC PNP. However, they must have a job offer with a duration of at least one year and at least 120 calendar days remaining at the time they apply for a provincial nomination.
