Ontario invites 61 French-Speaking Skilled Worker candidates

Canada PR applications

In the latest draw held on February 7, the province of Ontario issued 61 invitations to apply for provincial nomination to candidates belonging to the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream of the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) . With this draw, the total number of invitations issued by Ontario through the Express Entry-aligned French-Speaking Skilled Worker immigration stream has reached 189. The previous draw under the stream was held on February 1, when 29 invitations to apply for provincial nomination were issued.

French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream

The French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream allows the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program (OINP) to select French-speaking candidates with strong English language abilities and skilled work experience from the federal Express Entry pool. The factors that make the stream attractive for Express Entry candidates are that it does not require the candidates to have a job offer in Ontario and there is no minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score requirement.

In order to be eligible under the stream, the candidates must qualify for the Express Entry through either the Federal Skilled Worker Program or the Canadian Experience Class. The candidates cannot apply to the Stream directly. The OINP searches the Express Entry pool to select potential candidates with qualifications required by the stream. The selected candidates are then issued Notifications of Interest (NOI) by the OINP. The candidates who receive NoIs can apply for provincial nomination in 45 calendar days.

Eligibility requirements

In order to be eligible under the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream, the candidates must have the ability to listen, read, write and speak French at a Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) of 7. In English, they must have a CLB of 6 in all these four abilities.

The Express Entry candidates who obtain a provincial nomination from Ontario for permanent residence in Canada will receive 600 additional CRS points that would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
