WHATSAPPRecent graduates with a Post-graduate Work Permit and a job or job offer from a Newfoundland and Labrador employer can apply for provincial nomination under Newfoundland and Labrador International Graduate category. The other eligibility requirements are:
- The candidate must have completed at least half of their studies in Canada
- The candidate must have graduated from an eligible publicly funded Canadian college or university
- The candidate must have completed a diploma or degree program with a minimum duration of two years. It must be a full-time study program
- The candidate must have a full-time job or a job offer for at least two years with a possibility of extension. The offer must be issued by an eligible Newfoundland and Labrador employer. Salary and other benefits must meet the provincial employment standards and prevailing wage rates. Contractual positions are not eligible.
- The age of the candidate must be between 21 and 59 years
- The candidate must have the qualifications, training, skills and/or accreditation for the job
- The candidate must hold a Post-graduate work permit issued by the Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), which has to be submitted along with the PNP application. The work permit must also have a validity of at least six months at the time of application
- The candidate must have the intention and ability to settle permanently in Newfoundland and Labrador and demonstrate sufficient settlement funds to successfully establish themselves in the province
- The candidate must have sufficient level of language proficiency to perform job duties.
- If the candidate completed their studies at a recognized post-secondary institute outside Newfoundland and Labrador, they must have at least one year work experience in a job related to their field of study
Working in field of study
The candidate must have either:
- a full-time, indeterminate position related to their field of study, or
- a position that is related to their skills, experience and/or training.
A candidate can hold a position unrelated to their field of study if they have graduated from Memorial University or the College of the North Atlantic. However, the job position must meet the following criteria:
- The job must require a post-secondary degree or diploma
- Must correspond to NOC skill levels 0, A, B or C
- Can reasonably be expected to lead to career advancement for the applicant
- Is in a sector in which the applicant has a recently attained combination of skill, experience and/or training (in the last 5 years), according to the NOC description;
- Is full-time and indeterminate; and
- Addresses a perceived labour market shortage in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Ineligibility factors
The following individuals are not eligible for provincial nomination under the Newfoundland and Labrador International Graduate category:
- Students who have not completed to their studies
- Failed refugee claimants or refugee claimants living in Newfoundland and Labrador
- Students who have studied in Canada under sponsorship from an agency or government that expects the individual to return to his/her country of origin once he/she has graduated
- Candidates with a criminal record or those having a dependent family member with a criminal record
- Candidates with unresolved custody, marriage or child support disputes
- Candidates who have intentionally misrepresented themselves in the application
- Candidates whose employer has intentionally misrepresented themselves or the applicant
