Saskatchewan held its first PNP draw of 2022 and invited 104 healthcare professionals to apply for provincial nomination. In the draw held on January 12, the province invited candidates through two of its PNP immigration streams, which are Express Entry subcategory and Occupations In-Demand subcategory. While Express Entry candidates received 37 invitations, the remaining 67 invitations were issued to Occupations In Demand candidates. The lowest PNP score of selected candidates in both categories was 68 points.
The draw invited candidates with work experience in one of the following targeted occupations:
- Medical laboratory technologists
- Paramedical workers
- Psychologists
- Medical sonographers
- Occupational therapists
- Medical radiation technologists
The candidates were required to have done Educational Credential Assessments(ECAs) to prove that their educational qualifications were comparable to that of Canadian standards.
Saskatchewan Express Entry subcategory
The Express Entry subcategory of Saskatchewan is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three economic-class immigration programs of the country, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program(FSWP), Federal Skilled Trades Program(FSTP) and Canadian Experience Class(CEC). In order to migrate to Canada through Express Entry, a candidate must first create an Express Entry profile.
This profile will then be assessed on the basis of various human capital factors such as age, education, work experience etc., and awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score. Those with the highest scores will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the Express Entry draws that are conducted regularly. Those who have a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total CRS score, which will guarantee them an invitation in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
Saskatchewan Occupations In-Demand subcategory
Occupations In-Demand sub-category targets those immigration candidates who do not have an Express Entry profile. To be eligible under this sub-category, the candidate must have work experience in one of the in-demand occupations of Saskatchewan.
Both these categories require the candidate to create an Expression of Interest(EOI) profile through the online application system of Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program(SINP) to be considered for invitation. This EOI system allows the province to select candidates on the basis of various eligibility factors and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada.
