The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has finished issuing invitations for 2022 Parents and Grandparents Program(PGP). The Parents and Grandparents Program of Canada aims to help Canadian citizens and permanent residents to reunite with their parents/grandparents by sponsoring them for permanent residence in Canada. Once the parents/grandparents obtain permanent residence in Canada, they get to enjoy many benefits such as access to universal healthcare and a pathway to citizenship in the country.
The lottery for PGP 2022 was conducted between October 12 to October 20. The IRCC issued a total of 23100 invitations to potential sponsors during this period. The sponsors were selected from those who had submitted their Expressions of Interest in 2020. The candidates who have received invitations may submit the completed application before December 24, 2022.
For Parents and Grandparents Program – 2022, out of the 23100 potential sponsors that the IRCC has invited, 15000 complete applications are expected to be received.
To be eligible to receive an invitation, a potential sponsor must have met the following criteria:
– Must have completed an Interest to Sponsor form on IRCC’s website
-Must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
– Be at least 18 years of age
– Be residing in Canada
-Exceed minimum necessary income level
Further, a potential sponsor must sign an undertaking, agreeing the following matters:
- To financially support the sponsored for at least 20 years
- To repay any social assistance benefits paid to the sponsored persons for a period of 20 years
Canada Super Visa
For those who are unable to sponsor their parents and grandparents through the PGP, another option is available, which is Canada Super Visa. Canada Super Visa is a multi-entry visa with which will be valid for a period of 10 years. Once entered, a visa holder can stay in Canada for a maximum of five years. Those who are already in Canada on Super Visa may now extend their stay by up to two years. The IRCC has also announced that it would allow select international medical insurance companies to provide coverage to Super Visa applicants in the future.
