Immigrants are helping the province of Prince Edward Island to tide over the severe labour shortage crisis being experienced across Canada, according to data from the Canadian census. As per this data, more than three times as many residents settled in the PEI in the five years that ended in 2021. In 2022, a total of 4860 immigrants settled in the province. In 2015, the number was just 1615. By the end of 2021, immigrants and temporary residents constituted slightly more than 11.4 per cent of the total population of the Prince Edward Island.
Similarly there was an increase of almost 12.4 per cent in the number of working residents in Prince Edward Island, in the second quarter of the year 2022. Despite this, the number of job vacancies also increased in the province during this period. In the second quarter of this year, the number of vacant job positions in Prince Edward Island was 4520. The growing number of immigrants and temporary residents in the province now allows the employers of Prince Edward Island to tide over the labour shortage crisis.

The two major immigration pathways for skilled workers under the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) are:

- Prince Edward Island Labour Impact
Prince Edward Island conducts provincial draws periodically and invites eligible candidates to apply for provincial nomination through these pathways. To receive such an invitation through the Prince Edward Island Express Entry stream, a candidate must have an active Express Entry profile. If they get a provincial nomination from Prince Edward Island, they will have 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS)score points added to their profile. This would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
The Labour Impact category of PEI PNP has two pathways under it, PEI Skilled Worker Stream and PEI Critical Worker Stream.
Immigrants can also move to Prince Edward Island through the Atlantic Immigration Program or federal Express Entry.
