In an encouraging development for aspiring migrants, the Australian government has issued 15,000 invitations under the Skilled Independent Visa (subclass 189) in the latest SkillSelect round for the 2024-25 migration program year. It comes after 7,973 invitations were issued in September to attract skilled workers.
This is a points tested pathway used to attract highly skilled professionals to Australia through the Skilled Independent Visa. Unlike employer-sponsored visas, this visa allows migrants to live and work anywhere in the country and has unsurpassed flexibility, with enormous opportunities.
Australia needs skilled workers, and has recently allocated 15,000 invitations to fill industry gaps, including in areas such as healthcare, engineering, IT, education and construction. Already when it comes to these sectors, they have been struggling to meet that demanding talent need, which is compounded by the post-pandemic recovery and the ambition for infrastructure projects.
