Those who go to study in Western Australia have a better chance for migrating to Australia as the state government has added 194 occupations to the Graduate Occupation List. This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to attract more immigrants to the country. Currently, Western Australia’s Graduate Occupation List has a total of 331 occupations. Biochemist, cardiologist, cook, engineering professionals and film and video editors and among the occupations added to the list.
The move is also part of Mark McGowan Government’s Reconnect WA strategy for attracting skilled migrants and international students to Western Australia for alleviating skills shortages in the state. The Western Australian government issued a statement recently. The list briefed that the expansion of Graduate Occupation List would help attract a broad and diverse range of skills to the state that align with its current and future workforce needs.
The pathway would give international graduates in Western Australia an option to apply for permanent residence. Under the Skilled Migration Pathway, not only those residing in Australia, but those residing overseas may get a chance to apply for permanent residence.
The newly added occupations to the Graduate Occupation List are as follows:
- Acupuncturist
- Ambulance officer
- Biochemist
- Bricklayer
- Cardiologist
- Chiropractor
- Cook
- Dancer or choreographer
- Deer farmer
- Driving instructor
- Engineering professionals
- Film and video editor
This move of Western Australia would support the international education sector in the state and also add to the state’s pipeline of skilled workers in priority areas. The state government is committed to encouraging the return of international students to Western Australia to support their international education sector and address skills shortages in key industries, said Sue Ellery, Education and Training Minister of Western Australia.
“With world-class education, healthy job opportunities and strong public health management, there is no better or safer place to live, work and study,” said the minister.
Those who go to study in Australia can earn Australian work experience with a Post Study Work Visa. If you choose a course that holds relevance to local professions, you may find a job easily and apply for permanent residence in the country.
Apply for Australia migration from overseas
Starting from 2022-23 program year, those residing overseas may obtain state nomination from Western Australia. The candidates would be selected via a ranking system. This system would give first preference would be given to those residing in Western Australia. The second preference to those residing in Australia and third to those residing overseas.
