Canada to relax rules for Express Entry candidates who completed their Canada education online

Canada relaxes Express Entry rules for candidates who studied online

Canada has decided to relax rules for Express Entry candidates who have completed their study programs in Canada online. This is decision was taken considering the fact that public health restrictions in the past two years owing to the pandemic had forced students to depend on online learning.

CRS score points for studies completed online

Normally, online learning is not considered for Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points if more than 50% of the program is completed through distance learning. But with the new change, introduced by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), Express Entry candidates who have completed their study programs online will be eligible for Canadian educational credential points. But the programs must have been completed between March 2020 and August 2022. According to the IRCC webpage, this change is applicable to those who have completed their Canadian degree, diploma or certificate online.

This is applicable to those who have completed their studies online, from outside Canada or through part-time studies. However, the IRCC has reminded the candidates that they need to update their Express Entry profile to be eligible for Express Entry points. The candidates must update their profile by August 2 for ensuring that they have the best chance of receiving an Invitation to Apply in the next Express Entry draw. Express Entry draws are held once in every two weeks and the next Express Entry draw will take place on August 3.

Changes in Express Entry

It was in July 6 this year, the IRCC resumed all-program Express Entry draws after gap of 18 months. As the pandemic-related public restrictions have already been relaxed, the IRCC is planning to make the Express Entry system more efficient. As part of this, a number of changes are being introduced to the Express Entry. It has been promised that the processing of the Express Entry applications would return to service standards of six months soon. Canada is also planning to launch targeted Express Entry draws, which would allow them to choose more candidates who would be able to cater to the specific labour market needs of the country with their skills and qualifications. A new NOC system for Express Entry is also on the cards.
