The Canadian Government has taken measures to increase the number of applications that it will be accepting under the Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship Program from 10,000 to 17,000 for the year 2018.
The increase in the number of application acceptance will help meet the immigration goals set by the Canadian Government to see families getting reunited in Canada. Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada announced that it would resume inviting sponsors who have submitted an Interest to Sponsor between the 2nd of January and 1st February.
An individual to become eligible to sponsor his/her parents or grandparents should meet the following criteria:
- He/she should be 18 years old and a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada.
- The applicant should support the sponsored person and their dependents.
- The applicant should meet the necessary income level as specified by the immigration rules.
- A sponsorship agreement should be signed for up to 20 years stating that he/she would provide financial support (the duration depends on the type of relative you are sponsoring).
The additional invitations said by the Canadian Government will be issued using the same random selection method which IRCC used to issue invitation this year. Sponsors receiving an ITA (Invitation to Apply) will have only 60 days to submit a completely filled application.
Among the multiple Family Class Sponsorship Programs that the Canadian government has & offers, the Parents and Grandparents Program is a highly traction gained program which allows successful applicants apply a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa for their parents & grandparents.
