Canada Immigration population forecast

The report further predicts that Canada’s immigrant population will continue to rise and will constitute as high as 34% by 2041. Over 1.3 million new permanent residents settled in Canada between 2016 and 2021 and over half of them arrived under economic class. Further, one-third of these immigrants lived in Canada before gaining permanent residence in the country. The data also shows that immigrants accounted for around 80% of Canada’s labour force growth during the 2016-2021 period.

Asia has been the top source of immigrants in Canada, the report revealed. Around 62% of the recent immigrant arrivals were born in Asia. Among them 18.6 per cent, the highest percentage, came from India. The Philippines accounted for 11.4 per cent of newcomers, followed by China with 8.9 per cent newcomers.

The report also observed that about 10.9 per cent of new immigrants who came to Canada during the 2016-21 period were young, in the age group pf 15-24. A vast majority of the new immigrants were core-aged workers, 25-54 years old. Children below the age of 15 constituted 17.1 per cent of newcomer arrivals.

Immigration Level Plan

As per the Immigration Levels Plan for 2023-2025, Canada will be welcoming 500000 new permanent residents in 2025. By increasing the immigration levels Canada is aiming to tackle the labour shortage crisis and the demographic crisis the country is facing now. Almost one million job positions are lying vacant in the country, which led to business groups putting pressure on Canadian government to increase immigration levels. Further, Canada needs more immigrants to sustain a healthy population growth level. The country has one of the lowest natural birth rate. The population is aging fast and a significant per cent of the Canadian workforce has reached their retirement age. So Canada needs more immigrant workers to replace these workers as well as to fill new vacant positions.
It means more aspiring immigrants will get a chance to migrate to Canada. So, if you are planning to migrate to Canada, start the process right away. Connect with CanApprove to find your best options.
