16 more occupations eligible for Express Entry under FSW

Express Entry under FSW

As the National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021 has come into effect, 16 new jobs have been made eligible for the Federal Skilled Worker program through the Express Entry system. Under FSW, foreign nationals can apply for Canada PR, if they meet the eligibility criteria, which include work experience in four of the six Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities (TEER) categories of the new NOC system.

The occupations that are eligible for FSW now fall under the TEER categories 0,1,2 and 3.

The occupations added newly to the FSW are:

  • (NOC 13102) Payroll administrators
  • (NOC 33100) Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants
  • (NOC 33102) Nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates
  • (NOC 33103) Pharmacy technical assistants and pharmacy assistants
  • (NOC 43100) Elementary and secondary school teacher assistants
  • (NOC 43200) Sheriffs and bailiffs
  • (NOC 43201) Correctional service officers
  • (NOC 43202) By-law enforcement and other regulatory officers
  • (NOC 63211) Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations
  • (NOC 73200) Residential and commercial installers and servicers
  • (NOC 73202) Pest controllers and fumigators
  • (NOC 73209) Other repairers and servicers
  • (NOC 73300) Transport truck drivers
  • (NOC 73301) Bus drivers, subway operators and other transit operators
  • (NOC 73400) Heavy equipment operators
  • (NOC 93200) Aircraft assemblers and aircraft assembly inspectors

Under the NOC 2021, the second digit in the occupation code signifies the category in TEER. So, all the newly added occupations are TEER 3 occupations. All these occupations require a college diploma, apprenticeship training of fewer than two years or on-the-job training of more than six months.

This is for the first time, truck drivers and personal support workers are becoming eligible under the Express Entry. Scarcity of these workers in Canada can be a major reason for bringing these occupations under the purview of Express Entry. In order to tackle the labour shortage being faced by the country, Canada will be welcoming a high number of immigrants in the coming years. And as far as assessing the work experience of candidates for immigration is concerned, candidates will be assessed on the basis of the new TEER occupation classification system.
