In the Ontario PNP draw held on January 27, the province invited 1032 Express Entry candidates to apply for provincial nomination. The candidates were invited through the Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream. The candidates were required to have a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging between 381 and 461. The candidates who were selected in the draw were those who had submitted their profile between January 27, 2021 and January 27, 2022.
The invited candidates, if successfully apply for the provincial nomination, will have 600 CRS points added to their total CRS score. The invited candidates will get a time period of 45 calendar days to submit the application for provincial nomination.
Ontario Express Entry Skilled Trades Stream
The Skilled Trades Stream of Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program is aligned to the federal Express Entry system. It offers pathway to permanent residency for Federal Skilled Worker Program and Canadian Experience Class candidates.
To be eligible under the stream, a candidate must be living in Ontario with a valid work permit. They also need to have a minimum one year of full-time work experience or equivalent part-time work. The work experience they have in Ontario must be in a skilled trade, listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73 or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification (NOC).
Though no job offer is necessary, they should meet federal and provincial requirements. As the stream is aligned to Express Entry, the candidate must also have an active Express Entry profile, which is a primary requirement.
Canada Express Entry system
The Express Entry system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three federal economic immigration programs, which are the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Worker Program. The candidates who wish to migrate to Canada through Express Entry may create an Express Entry profile. Based on various human capital factors like work experience, age, education and language ability, they will be awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System score. Those with the highest score will be invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada.
