Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program(OINP) will be nominating more immigration candidates this year, as the province has received its largest allocation so far in Canada Provincial Nominee Program. In 2019, Ontario will be nominating 6900 immigration candidates for permanent residence in Canada. Last year, the nomination allocation for Ontario was 6600, besides receiving an additional 250 nominations by the end of the year, bringing the total nomination to 6,850.Ontario is the most populous province and most favourite destination for immigrants to Canada. The province had requested an additional allocation of a 1000 nominations for a total of 7600 nominations for 2019, citing the strong demand for OINP among immigration candidates.
Canada’s annual admissions target for the PNP has been increased for both 2019 and 2020. This has been reflected in the allocation boost for Ontario. In 2019, Canada is planning to welcome 61,000 new permanent residents through Provincial Nominee Programs, which means an increase of 6000 compared to 2018, when the target was 55000 new permanent residents.
Ontario’s nomination allocation for 2019 comprises a principal allocation of 6,650 nominations and an additional 250 spaces for intermediate-skilled temporary foreign workers (TFWs).
OINP immigration streams
Ontario has three immigration streams linked to Express Entry. These streams allow Ontario to choose candidates from the federal Express Entry pool to be nominated for permanent residence in Canada. The Express Entry candidates nominated by the province will receive 600 additional Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score points that would ensure an invitation to apply for permanent residence for these candidates in the subsequent Express Entry draws. The Human Capital Priorities Stream, which was the most active immigration pathway in 2018, issued 2,190 of the 6,850 total nominations issued by Ontario last year. Another 1,035 nominations were issued through the two other Express Entry-aligned streams of OINP — the Skilled Trades Stream and the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream.
Invitations were also issued through pathways not aligned to Express Entry including the Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream through which 1254 nominations were issued and Masters Graduate Stream, which issued 1,215 nominations.
