Ontario PNP nominations in 2020

In 2020, Ontario issued a high number of nominations to foreign skilled workers with experience in technology-related and skilled trades occupations.  Around 20 percent of all these nominations went to foreign workers with experience in high-tech occupations that include:

About 20 per cent of the nominees had work experience in a skilled trade. More than 1100 nominations were issued under the Express Entry Skilled Trades stream.

Among the nominees, 48 per cent had job offer from an Ontario employer. About 96 percent of the nominees had a post-secondary degree and about 43 per cent had intermediate level of language proficiency in one of the official languages of Canada.

High number of Express Entry candidates

Among the nominees of Ontario PNP in 2020, a total of 3499 were Express Entry candidates. They were nominated through three Express Entry-aligned streams of Ontario PNP. 1996 candidates were nominated through the Human Capital Priorities Stream, 1106 candidates through the Skilled Trades Stream and 397 candidates through the French-speaking Skilled Worker Stream.

The Express Entry immigration system of Canada manages applications for immigration under the three major economic immigration programs of Canada, which are Federal Skilled Worker Stream, Skilled Trades Stream and Canadian Experience Class. The PNP streams aligned to the Express Entry allow the provinces to select candidates with the skills and experience that are in demand in their respective labour markets and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. The Express Entry candidates nominated by PNPs will have 600 additional CRS score points added to their total score and that guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.

Nominations to Francophone candidates

Another major category of Ontario nominees were French-speakers. They constituted almost 5.4 per cent of all Ontario nominations.
