In a draw held on September 20, Prince Edward Island issued new invitations to apply for provincial nominations to candidates belonging to Express Entry, Labour Impact and Business Impact categories. The latest draw also marked an end to two controversial entrepreneur immigration streams of the province.
A total of 116 invitations were issued to Express Entry and Labour Impact Category candidates and eight invitations to candidates belonging to Business Impact category.
Business Impact Category candidates were required to score minimum 152 to be considered in the draw. However, PEI’s Office of Immigration has not revealed the minimum scores required for Express Entry and Labour Impact category candidates.
Prince Edward Island Express Entry:
In order to be considered for provincial nomination under the Express Entry category of Prince Edward Island, a candidate must first submit an Expression of Interest. The profiles in the Expression of Interest are then ranked on the basis of the scores assigned to candidates on six selection factors–age, language, education, work experience, employment, and adaptability. The highest scoring candidates will be invited to apply for provincial nomination.
The candidates who receive invitation to apply for provincial nomination can submit the completed application within 90 days of receiving the invitation. Upon obtaining provincial nomination, the candidates will receive 600 additional CRS score points, which increase their chances of being invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draws.
Business streams closed
September 20 draw was the final invitation round for the controversial 100% Ownership and Partial Ownership streams of Prince Edward Island’s Business Impact category. However, Prince Edward Island will continue to invite entrepreneurs through the Work Permit Stream of the Business Impact Category. Under this stream, immigrant entrepreneurs with a temporary work permit can start their business in the province. But they will be nominated for permanent residence in Canada only if the terms of their performance agreement are met.
