In the first Saskatchewan Express Entry and Occupation In-Demand draws held in 2019, a total of 596 candidates were invited to apply for provincial nomination. The minimum required score points for Express Entry candidates to qualify for the draw that was held on January 16 was 63. At the same time, the minimum required score for Occupation In-Demand candidates was 66.
Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category
Out of the total number of invitations issued, 362 were issued to candidates belonging to the Express Entry sub-category of Saskatchewan Immigrant Nominee Program (SINP). The Express Entry sub-category allows Saskatchewan to select eligible Express Entry candidates to nominate for Canadian permanent residence. The candidates who receive provincial nomination from Saskatchewan will receive 600 additional CRS points that will guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw. In order to be eligible under the Saskatchewan Express Entry sub-category, the candidates must have work experience in one of the high-skilled occupations listed in the In-Demand Occupations List of Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan Occupation In-demand sub-category
Saskatchewan issued 234 invitations to candidates of Occupation In-Demand sub-category in the January 16 draw. Foreign workers with experience in one of the occupations listed in the In-demand Occupations list of Saskatchewan are eligible to apply under this sub-category. Neither Express Entry nor Occupation In-demand sub-category demands the candidates to have a job offer from a Saskatchewan employer.
Expression of Interest system
The first step in applying for provincial nomination under both Express Entry and Occupation in-demand sub-categories is submitting an Expression of Interest. The candidates have to include information on relevant eligibility factors such as education, work experience and language proficiency in their Expression of Interest profile. Each of these profiles is awarded a score based on the information provided. Candidates with a minimum score of 60 points enter the respective pools of eligible candidates for Express Entry or Occupation In-Demand sub-category. Candidates with the highest scores are invited to apply for provincial nomination in the subsequent draws conducted regularly.
