Canada’s Immigration Plan
Labeled as the most ambitious immigration plan in recent Canadian history, Canada aims to invite nearly one million new immigrants between 2018 and 2020.
The number of economic migrants, family reunifications and refugees will climb from 300,000 in 2017 to 310,000 in 2018. The number will continue to rise each passing year, with 330,000 in 2019 and 340,000 in 2020.
Of all these new immigrants:
- The economic class will make up about 60% of newcomers! 565,000 will be admitted to the economic programs. Express Entry is the leading program for economic immigration, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) sent more Invitation to Appy (ITA) in 2017 compared to the past two years combined!
- Approximately 184,000 economic migrants and their dependents will be admitted through the Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs).
- 265,000 members through the Family Class programs will be admitted.
Approximately 20% of Canada’s 35 million people are from a foreign land, which makes Canada one of the world’s most multicultural countries. The diversity in Canada makes settling easier for immigrants. According to Canada’s Immigration Minister, Ahmed Hussen, immigration has helped empower Canada’s economy and has filled the gaps in demographics in provinces. He believes that immigration drives innovation and strengthens the economy. He said the government is also working to reduce backlogs and speed up the processing of applications in order to reunite families and speed up citizenship applications.
