Indians received the highest number of provincial nominations from British Columbia in the year 2018, says a new report from the provincial government. According to the report, 29 percent of all the provincial nominations issued by British Columbia through the Skills Immigration streams of British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) went to Indian applicants. Indians were followed by Chinese, Brazilians and South Koreans in terms of the number of provincial nominations received.
As per the report, nominations issued through the Skills Immigration program of BC PNP have increased significantly. BC PNP issued a total of 1,607 nominations to SI: Skilled Worker candidates in 2018, compared to 1,218 in 2017. Nominations issued through the SI: Entry Level and Semi-Skilled Category and the International Post-Graduate Category were also on rise. The proportion of nominations issued to technology workers increased in 2018 to 19.7 per cent compared to 17.2 per cent the year before.
BC PNP Express Entry
British Columbia issued a total of 3100 provincial nominations through its Express Entry-aligned streams in 2018. Of these, nearly 2000 nominations went to candidates in the Express Entry B.C. (EEBC): Skilled Worker Category, while another 936 nominations were issued through the EEBC: International Graduate Category of British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP).
Compared to the year 2017, the number of provincial nominations issued by British Columbia through its Express Entry-aligned immigration streams has witnessed an increase by 750. The nominations issued to Express Entry candidates also accounted for 48 percent of all the nominations issued by BC PNP in 2018.
The Express Entry BC Stream of BC PNP has four categories linked to the Express Entry system:
- EEBC: Skilled Worker
- EEBC: International Graduate
- EEBC: International Post-Graduate
- EEBC: Healthcare Professional
In order to be considered for provincial nomination, the Express Entry candidates must register with the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS) of BC PNP. Each registered candidate is awarded a score based on various eligibility factors and the highest scoring candidates are invited to apply for provincial nomination in the draws that are conducted regularly.
In 2018, BC PNP issued 1987 nominations through EEBC: Skilled Worker category. It means an increase of 806 in number compared 2017 and an increase of 1188 compared to 2016. The number of invitations issued through the EEBC: International Post-Graduate and EEBC: Healthcare Professional categories have also witnessed an increase.
