- Software engineers and designers
- Food service supervisors
- Information systems analysts and consultants
- Computer programmers and interactive media developers
- Administrative assistants (excluding legal or medical administrative assistants)
- Financial auditors and accountants
- Cooks
- Restaurant and food service managers
- Professional occupations in advertising, marketing and public relations
- University professors and lecturers
IT workers in Canada find more opportunities
Job such as software engineers and designers, information systems analysts and consultants, computer programmers and interactive media developers found their place among the top four jobs for new immigrants to Canada in 2020. It means as in the previous year, IT jobs remained in the top positions for new immigrants to Canada. But in 2019, the topmost job for new immigrants to Canada was food service supervisor. But as the restaurant business took a beating owing to COVID-19 following international travel restrictions, the number of new immigrants who took up this job in 2020 also came down.
As the demand for doctors, nurses and other health professionals has always been high, they did not find a place among the top 10 jobs. However, provinces such as Nova Scotia invited more nurses through their Provincial Nominee Programs.
Canada immigration levels all set to rise
COVID-19 is still affecting various sectors and normal life in Canada. But the country has reiterated its commitment to invite a high number of immigrants to the country in the coming years for supporting the economic recovery during the post-pandemic period. Canada is planning to admit more than 1.2 million new immigrants during the period between 2021 and 2023. The immigration target for the current year is 401,000. For 2022, the target will be 411000 and for 2021, it will be 421000.
