It is better to improve your English language proficiency and there are a number of ways to do it. Reading skills can be improved by reading English books and periodicals. For improving writing skills, one can practice writing letters, e-mails and notes in English language.

2. Understand and improve your pace

IELTS comprises four tests– listening, writing, reading, and speaking. A person has to attend all the four tests on the same day, one after another. There will be no breaks in between. By taking sample IELTS tests, you will be able to know at what pace you will have to complete each test. You can also practice sample questions. While taking the test, remember not to overspend your time on a single section, ignoring the others.

Before taking the IELTS test, you need to clearly understand the test format. While the Listening and Speaking components are same for both Academic and General tests, Reading and Writing components are different. Usually a booklet is given to the candidates detailing how to respond correctly to each part. You must also read the Notice to candidates thoroughly to get a clear idea about the test format.

4. Attend preparation classes

Attending IELTS classes will give you a clear idea about the test. You will also get a chance to practice all parts of the test. While doing this, you will be able to learn from your mistakes and thus, perform better at the real test.
