The results of an Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program draw held on July 27 were released recently and 148 Express Entry candidates with a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 300 received invitations to apply for a provincial nomination. The invitations were issued through the Express Entry stream of Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP). Compared to the AINP draw held on July 14, CRS score requirement has dropped by one point.
With the latest AINP draw, the total number Express Entry candidates who have received invitations from Alberta so far this year has reached 2761. Last year, AINP had stopped issuing invitations for a brief period owing to the impact of COVID-19. But the invitation rounds were resumed in January 2021. The total annual nomination allocation for Alberta in the year 2021 is 6250.
Alberta Express Entry stream
The Express Entry stream of Alberta allows the province to select candidate who can meet the labour market needs of the province from the federal Express Entry pool and nominate them for permanent residence in Canada. The federal Express Entry system manages applications for immigration under the three economic immigration programs, which are Federal Skilled Workers Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program and Canadian Experience Class. The Express Entry candidates are assessed on the basis of various human capital factors and awarded a CRS score out of 1200. Those with the highest scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada in the federal Express Entry draws which are conducted regularly. The candidates who have a provincial nomination will have 600 additional CRS score points, which guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
To be eligible under the Alberta Express Entry stream, the candidate must have work experience in an eligible occupation of Alberta and expressed their interest to move to Alberta in the Express Entry profile. Those candidates who have work experience in Alberta or a job offer from an Alberta employer have better chances of receiving an invitation from AINP. Canadian education and a close family member residing in the province are other favourable factors.
