In the Express Entry draw held on May 11, Canada invited 545 Provincial Nominee Program candidates to apply for permanent residence. The invited candidates had a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System Score (CRS) of 753. Though the score appears to be high, as the PNP candidates would have already received 600 CRS points, the minimum base CRS score of the invited candidates was just 153.
A tie-break rule was also applied in this draw and it was set for December 15, 2021 at 20:32:57 UTC. It means only those candidates who had submitted their profiles before the said date and time were invited in the draw. In the previous Express Entry draw held on April 27, a total of 839 PNP candidates with a minimum CRS score of 772 had received invitations.
All-program Express Entry draws to resume soon
Ever since September 2021, Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting PNP candidates. Before 2020, program-specific draws were quite rare and almost all draws targeted candidates from all the immigration categories. But the border restrictions owing to the impact of the pandemic, huge backlog of immigration applications combined with Canada’s commitment to meet annual immigration targets and support provinces to achieve their immigration goals led to the draw exclusively targeting PNP candidates.
However, Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has announced that Canada would be resuming all-program draws in July this year. The application processing times would also be brought down. By 2024, Canada would be welcoming over 110000 new immigrants through Express Entry every year.
