In the all-program Express Entry draw held on September 14, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issued 3250 invitations to apply for permanent residence. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System(CRS) score required for the candidates to receive the invitation was 511. It means five points less compared to the previous draw.
After the COVID-19 pandemic broke out in 2020, Canada stalled conducting all-program Express Entry draws for a period of 18 months. It was on July 6, 2022, the all-program draws were resumed after this hiatus. Ever since, the number of invitations increased by 250 in each successive draw till the draw held on August 31. In the draw held on August 31, the number increased by 500 and the same trend has continued in the latest draw. There has also been a gradual decrease in the CRS score requirement, as each draw saw the cut-off score dropping by eight or nine points. In the latest draw, there has been a decrease of 5 points. In the first all-program draw of July 6, the CRS requirement was 557 points.
Canada will be welcoming a record number of 432000 new immigrants. In the first six months of the current year itself, Canada has welcomed more than 300,000 new permanent residents. A total of 40785 have been admitted through Express Entry so far this year.
Canada is welcoming a high number of immigrants with an aim to tackle the severe labour shortage crisis being faced by the country. Currently, there are more than one million job vacancies in Canada. In order to make the immigration process smoother, Canada will make the application process 100% digital. Besides, 1250 additional employees will also be hired for this purpose.
Canada is also planning to introduce some major changes to the Express Entry system which will come into effect in 2023. One of these changes would be selecting candidates on the basis of work experience, education, language ability etc., rather than on the basis of CRS score. The number of candidates being admitted through Express Entry will also be increased in the coming years.
