With an aim to make the process of applying for Canada permanent residence easier, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has decided to make the facility of its online application portal available for most of the PR programs by the end of October. The facility was announced by IRCC in January this year. By the end of March last year itself, the facility was available for some applicants. The IRCC website says that the online option would give clients more flexibility to apply for Canada PR.
More Canada immigration programs to have online application facility
By October 14, the online portal would also become available for those who apply for permanent residence under the Agri-food Pilot and Start-up Visa program as well as temporary residents applying for permanent residence. From October 21 onwards, candidates applying under Home Support Worker and Home Child Care Provider Pilots and under humanitarian and compassionate grounds as well as self-employed people apply under the federal program will have access to the portal. The last program to be added to the portal would be the Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) on October 28.
Canada immigration process turns more digital
The obstructions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic were one of the factors that compelled the IRCC to move towards online application. Not only it would make the application processing faster, but would allow social distancing and transparency.
Canada had launched citizenship application status tracker in May last year, another major step towards making immigration and integration smoother and more transparent. Soon, immigration consultants and lawyers will have access to this tracker. Another application status tracker launched by IRCC is for permanent residence applications, in February this year. By spring 2023, this application status tracker would further be expanded to include seven more permanent residence and temporary residence programs. Besides, the IRCC has also began to provide more online options for citizenship applicants, which include virtual ceremonies and online citizenship tests.
