British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) has announced that they will have a new scoring system for their Skills Immigration Stream, when it reopens in November. BC PNP shut down on October 12 and they will be reopening on November 16, as they are implementing Canada’s new National Occupational Classification (NOC) system.
They have removed all applications that had been left in BC PNP’s candidates’ pool as on October 12. Now those candidates who want receive an invitation from BC PNP will have to submit their application again. From November 16 onwards, BC PNP will have a new scoring system, informed the province. Changes in Canada NOC system
The National Occupation Classification system of Canada will move from a four-digit number classification system to a five digit code system. Within this new five-digit code, the Canadian government will break down the level of skill under each occupation, which is currently called Skill Levels. Currently there are four levels to reflect the level of training, education, experience and responsibilities. This will be six categories when the new system comes to existence. These will be called the TEER categories and will replace the current skill levels.
While submitting the application for immigration, it is very important that you choose the right NOC code. So, once the new system comes to force, you will have to choose the NOC code according to the new five-digit NOC code. The NOC system is overhauled in every 10 years in order to align it with the changing labour market and demographic needs of the country. The Provincial Nominee Programs would also use this system to identify the jobs.
BC PNP Skills Immigration Stream
For applying under the BC PNP Skills Immigration Stream, one must register under the Skills Immigration Registration System (SIRS). They will be assessed and ranked on the basis of PNP score awarded based on various factors such as education and work experience. Those with the highest scores will be invited to apply for provincial nomination in the draws that are conducted regularly.
