The applications for Canada family sponsorship immigration can now be submitted online. The change was introduced on September 23, 2022. So now, the applications for spousal sponsorship as well as parents and grandparents sponsorship may now be submitted online. The change will make the application process faster and the applicants may receive immediate confirmation on applications received. However, those with special requirements have exemption and for them, applications can still be submitted by paper or other means. It was the COVID-19 pandemic that made the immigration department of Canada to accelerate its efforts to move towards online applications. Canada has also introduced online application status trackers for permanent residence applications and temporary residence programs.
23100 invitations under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP)
Canada is planning to invite 23100 sponsors under the Parents and Grandparents Program for 2022. The invitations will begin to be issued by the end of this week. The invitations will be sent to randomly selected candidates who have submitted their interest to sponsor form in 2020. This is the third batch of invitations being sent to these candidates, after January and September 2021. By all indications, the number of families reunited through the Parents and Grandparents Program (family sponsorship) would exceed the target set in the current Immigration Levels Plan. The target set for the current year is 25000. But data from the first seven months of the current year indicate that the country would be welcoming 29091 new permanent residents under PGP in 2022.
Increase in Spousal Sponsorship Immigration to Canada
The number of people coming to Canada through the spousal sponsorship/ family sponsorship program has also reached record high this year. It is all likely that a new record would be set in this regard in the current year. Canada is on track to welcome 70526 new permanent residents through spousal sponsorship. It will be 9.4 per cent more compared to the number of people who came to Canada in 2021.
High number of Indians receiving PR visa through spousal sponsorship
In recent years, Indians grabbed the highest number of PR visas issued through spousal sponsorship programs. In 2021, a total of 10705 Indians became permanent residents in Canada through spousal sponsorship programs. It is almost 17 per cent of the total number of PR visas issued under the programs in that year. For the current year, Canada targets to welcome 80000 spouses, partners and children for permanent residence.
There are plenty of options for those who wish to bring their family members to Canada. Further, Canada has recently launched a new application tracker for family sponsorship candidates, so that they can check the status of their application online.
