The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC) recently released the strategic plan for Asia and Americas. With this plan, IRCC plans to collaborate with various countries in these regions with an aim to drive better immigration to Canada, increase collaboration with the governments and promote Canada’s immigration pathways and interests.
According to the Plan document, India is the single biggest contributor to Canadian immigration. India is also a key partner that Canada hopes to increase the quality of immigration from. As per the Plan, the IRCC will work towards both protecting the integrity of its programs in India even while increasing the size of immigration efforts from the country. It means even in the coming years as well, Canada will be welcoming a high number of immigrants from India. Canada will also continue to promote economic and social ties with India towards Canada’s interests.
The plan has five interconnected strategic objectives. And India has found place in four — which deals with environment, supply chains, people-to-people contacts and trade.
India top source country for immigration to Canada
As per data from the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada(IRCC), the largest number of immigrants will be arriving from India. Indians comprise around 20 per cent of the total number of persons immigrating to Canada each year. Also, among the 450000 international students who came to Canada last year, Indians comprised almost 50 per cent.
There are many factors behind more number of Indians moving to Canada. India’s growing middle class population with education, language skills, work experience and settlement funds, which are the eligibility factors to obtain a Canada PR visa is a major reason. So, Indians tend to earn more points for immigration. Lack of permanent residence pathways in the US is another important international factor. Further, the English language skills of Indians is a major factor that gives Indians that give them an edge over other nationals.
