Australia increases PR visa spaces for skilled workers

Australia Immigration

Australia announced the ceiling for the permanent migration program as part of the Federal Budget, which was delivered on March 29, 2022. As per the announcement, 160000 permanent residence visa spaces will be available under the 2022-2023 Migration Program of Australia. When planning the Migration Program, Australia takes into account various factors such as net overseas migration, international research, fiscal and economic modelling, as well as economic and labour force forecasts. The Migration Program for the current year is specifically aimed to boost the economic recovery of Australia in the post-pandemic era. According to Australia’s Minister for Immigration, Alex Hawke the Australian government is addressing critical skill shortages, driving innovation and attracting investment as part of the 2022-23 Budget. Out of the 160000 permanent residence spaces, a majority—109900 spaces— will be allotted for skilled worker candidates.

No ceiling has been set on the number of Partner visas to be issued this year. It is estimated that 40500 Partner visas will be issued this year. The Australia PR visa spaces for skilled workers may also be redistributed on an ongoing basis, keeping up with the changing economic conditions. The Program year 2022-2023 is from July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2023.
