Global Talent Independent Visa Program

The Global Talent Independent Visa Program of Australia was launched in November 2019 with an aim to attract global tech talent to Australia. The candidates under this scheme are assessed on the basis of various factors including their ability to economically establish well in the new country.
According to the Department of Home Affairs, Australia, the GTI visa program was launched with an aim to respond to very new occupations and new sectors, which is very difficult to do with the existing occupation visa based model of the country.
The Department explained that when a new occupation emerges, it is a challenge to fit them under the Australian and New Zealand Standard Classification of Occupations (ANZSCO) list of classification. This list primarily provides information on the skill levels, qualifications and experience required to be eligible for a skilled working visa. But when it comes to new occupations belonging to future-focus industries, this classification can be a bit difficult in terms of skilled migration context. For such occupations, GTI program proves to be effective.
The Global Talent Visa Program is a pathway for high skilled professionals to settle permanently in Australia. It aims to promote the growth innovation and technology in the country and attract the best talents from across the world to work in the seven future-focused sectors in the country. These are:

  • AgTech
  • Space and advanced manufacturing
  • Fintech
  • Energy and mining technology
  • Medtech
  • Cyber security
  • Quantum information/advanced digital/data science
  • ICT

Australia is one of the most prosperous, safe and culturally diverse countries in the world. So the GTI program gives an opportunity for talented individuals to settle permanently in the country. In the 2020-2021, a total of 15000 places are available under the GTI program.
