Minister confirms resumption of all-program Express Entry draws on July 6

Canada’s Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has confirmed on Twitter that starting on July 6, all qualified candidates under the following programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program

  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program

  3. Canadian Experience Class

will be invited to apply for permanent residence through Express Entry. The all-program draws are being resumed after a long gap of 18 months. Express Entry stopped inviting candidates under Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) and the Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) in December 2020. Canadian Experience Class(CEC) candidates stopped receiving invitations in September 2021.
In the past few months, Express Entry draws have been exclusively targeting Provincial Nominee Program(PNP) candidates. These changes were introduced because of COVID restrictions and the huge backlog of applications for immigration. Now, as the situation has improved, Canada is planning to welcome candidates from all immigration programs.

Canada Express Entry

Canada Express Entry is an online application management system for selecting eligible candidates to live and work in Canada. It offers faster processing time compared to other immigration pathways. In order to receive an  invitation under the Express Entry draws, a candidate must first create an Express Entry profile. Each Express Entry profile is then assessed and ranked on the basis of Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score.
CRS Score Calculator
The CRS score is awarded on the basis of factors such as occupation, work experience, education and language. Those with the highest CRS score would receive Express Entry invitations. The invited candidates can then apply for permanent residence in Canada within 60 days.

Canada will be welcoming over 110000 new candidates through Express Entry draws by the year 2024, as per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2022-24. In order to reduce the backlog and bring the immigration system back in order, Canada has announced large investments in modern technology and hiring additional staff. A new task force has also been formed to review government services such as immigration applications and passports.
