Canada has lifted almost all of the COVID-related restrictions and the country is set to welcome a high number of new immigrants in the coming few months. As per the Immigration Levels Plan of Canada for 2022-24, the country will be welcoming around 432000 new permanent residents this year. In the first quarter of the year, the country welcomed around 114000 new permanent residents. It means an increase of over 60 per cent compared to the same period in 2021. However, in the third quarter, that is between July and September, Canada is predicted to welcome more than 100000 new immigrants.

If the growth in the number of newcomers maintains the pace of same period last year, the number would be more than 120000 this year. But it is predicted that there would be a 20 per cent increase in landings due to warmer weather. So in total there should be at least 130000 new landings during the period.

Canada likely to welcome more Indian students

Also, experts predict that the country would also be welcoming up to 270000 international students, considering the growth in the number of international students from last year. India remains to be the main source country for the foreign students in Canada as Indian students comprise almost 35 per cent of the foreign students in Canadian higher education institutions.

So when the new permanent residents and new foreign students are considered, a total of over 500000 persons are expected to move to Canada in the third quarter of 2022.  This is significant as it indicates that Canadian immigration has returned normalcy after the difficult years which were affected by pandemic. Close to 90000 international students came to Canada in 2022. It shows a 30 per cent increase compared to Q1 2021.

The number of Indians migrating to Canada and moving to Canada for studies has increased significantly over the past few years. Better career opportunities, higher remuneration and good standard of living are the factors that make Canada attractive for Indian migrants. Similarly, world-standard education at affordable cost and better chances of becoming a permanent resident in the country after the studies make Canada an attractive study destination for Indian students.
