Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program or OINP held two Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws in May, the results of which had been paused owing to the provincial elections. In the first draw held on May 4, a total of 57 invitations were issued to candidates belonging to Employer Job Offer: In-Demand Skills stream of the OINP, with a minimum score of 27. The second draw was held on May 26 and the number of invitations issued was 535. It targeted candidates from the Express Entry Skilled Trades stream with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score ranging between 295 and 461.
In-demand Skills Stream
This stream is for candidates who have an eligible job offer from an Ontario employer. The candidate must have cumulative work experience of nine months in the province acquired in the past three years. However, seasonal work experience will not be counted. Besides, the candidates must also have high school level education and a language score of at least 4 in all the four proficiencies, besides sufficient settlement funds. Further, the candidate must also have created a profile with Ontario’s EOI system. The system assesses and ranks candidates on the basis of factors such as education, work experience and intend to settle in Ontario. The validity of the profile would be 12 months.
Express Entry Skilled Trades stream
The Skilled Trades Stream allows the province to select eligible candidates from the Express Entry pool. To be eligible, candidates must have minimum one year of full time work experience in Ontario or equivalent part-time experience in a skilled trade listed in Minor Group 633 or Major Group 72, 73 or 82 under Canada’s National Occupational Classification(NOC). However, a job offer is not necessary. If the selected candidates receive provincial nomination from Ontario, they would be awarded 600 additional CRS score points, which would guarantee them an invitation to apply for permanent residence in Canada in a subsequent Express Entry draw.
