Canada’s International Students Boom: To Host 900,000 Scholars in 2023, Confirms Minister

Canada is experiencing a significant surge in international student enrollment this year. The country poised to welcome a record-breaking 900,000 international students by the end of 2023.

This achievement comes as a testament to Canada’s reputation as a top destination for students from around the world.

Last week, the new Immigration Minister Marc Miller spoke to CBC about the likelihood hosting a record number of foreign students in Canada by the end of 2023.

According to the official data, Canada issued a total of 96,175 study permits to Indian students during the first two quarters of 2023. Whereas a total of 226,000 Indian citizens got their Canadian study permits throughout 2022.

IRCC Proposes Trusted Institutions Framework

However, this remarkable achievement underscores the country’s continued investment in support services for Canada’s international students.

In line with this, Canada is expected to modernize its student visa programme. Starting 2024, Canada is attaching a new two-tier structure to selected Designated Learning Institution (DLIs).

DLIs are educational establishments such as colleges, universities, and other academic institutions that are authorized to enroll international students.

Such DLIs that align with the new Trusted Institutions Framework stand to gain advantages, including expedited processing of study permit applications for international students admitted to their respective institutions.

IRCC intends to begin collecting and analyzing data from all DLIs in the coming months, and establish the initial list of Trusted Institutions in spring 2024.

Plan Your Study Abroad in Canada!

The impact of this influx of international students goes beyond academia. Canada’s Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allow international students to gain valuable work experience in Canada after completing their studies.

This option has become increasingly appealing to students seeking international exposure and career prospects.

If you’re looking for higher education abroad, Canada is your answer. The country is among the most demanding destinations to apply among other OECD countries.
