In the second federal Express Entry draw of 2020 held on January 22, the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 3400 candidates to apply for permanent residence in Canada. The Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) cut-off score for the latest draw was 471, which shows a drop by two points compared to the previous draw held on January 8. The total number of ITAs issued in these two draws held in January 2020 together is now 6800.
Tie-break rule was applied in the latest Express Entry draw as in the previous draws, the time stamp given being May 9, 2019 at 01:16:02 UTC. It means not all candidates who have a CRS score of 471 received ITAs. The draw prioritized candidates who had submitted their Express Entry profiles before the said date and time.
Canada has set higher targets for immigration through Express Entry for 2020 and 2021 compared to the previous years. The Express Entry immigration target for 2020 is 85800, while the target for the year 2021 is 88800.
Canada Express Entry system
Canada introduced the Express Entry system in January 2015 with an aim to manage applications to the three federal economic immigration programs namely, the Federal Skilled Worker Class, Federal Skilled Trades Class and Canadian Experience Class. Based on various eligibility factors such as age, education, work experience, language proficiency etc., each Express Entry candidate is awarded a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score out of 1200. In the Express Entry draws that are conducted in almost every two weeks, candidates with the highest CRS scores are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada. Though a job offer from Canada is not mandatory to qualify for Express Entry, those who have one are given additional points.
Almost every Canada Provincial Nominee Program has at least one stream or category aligned to the federal Express Entry. The Express Entry candidates who receive provincial nomination through one of these streams/categories are awarded an additional CRS score of 600. It guarantees them an Invitation to Apply for permanent residence in Canada in the subsequent Express Entry draw.
